OCU finshes 2-2 in Evangel Tournament

Shiels reaches 30 digs against Evangel

Rachel Gabel generated 11 kills and 24 digs on Saturday.

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. – Oklahoma City University prevailed 25-20, 27-25, 25-19 over Kansas Wesleyan on Saturday in the Evangel Tournament at The Courts.
Oklahoma City fell to tournament host Evangel (Mo.) 25-20, 16-25, 25-20, 25-22 also Saturday. The Stars moved to 6-2 in 2014.
Against Evangel, Kelley Shiels joined OCU's 30-dig club by amassing 31 digs and two aces. Shiels posted the 12th 30-dig performance by a Star and first since Danielle Robison had 32 against Southwestern Assemblies of God (Texas) on Sept. 30, 2013.
Kristen Macy accumulated 18 kills and 17 digs, while Meghan Irwin posted 11 kills and two blocks for OCU. Taylor Chase produced 42 assists, eight digs and four aces.
The Stars' Tori Leisure added six kills and 11 digs, and Rachel Gabel had three kills and 11 digs.
Against Kansas Wesleyan, Shiels, a senior from Edmond, Okla., rang up 26 digs, while Chase, a junior from Yukon, Okla., delivered 23 assists, eight digs and two blocks for OCU.
Gabel, a junior from Richardson, Texas, supplied the Stars eight kills, 13 digs and three blocks, and Macy, a sophomore from Edmond, Okla., chipped in eight kills.
Jami-Rae Renwick, a junior from Emerald Park, Saskatchewan, contributed seven kills and two blocks, while Leisure, a junior from Haslet, Texas, collected five kills and nine digs for OCU.
The Stars face Northwestern Oklahoma State in their home opener 6 p.m. Thursday at Abe Lemons Arena.
