Stars sock Missouri Valley in three sets

OCU suffers first defeat of season to 24th-ranked Missouri Baptist

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. – Oklahoma City University knocked off Missouri Valley 25-21, 25-17, 25-21 on Friday afternoon in the Evangel Tournament at The Courts.
Later Friday evening, the Stars dropped their first match of the season 25-21, 25-19, 29-27 to Missouri Baptist, ranked 24th in NAIA volleyball. Oklahoma City went to 5-1 this year.
Against Missouri Valley, Rachel Gabel paced the Stars with 17 kills, 12 digs and a solo block. Meghan Irwin added nine kills and two blocks, while Taylor Chase piled up 30 assists and eight digs.
OCU's Jami-Rae Renwick posted seven kills and three blocks, and Kristen Macy put together seven kills and five digs. Kenzie McMullen served up four aces to go with seven digs, and Kelley Shiels picked up 13 digs. Hannah Mitcham chipped in 11 assists.
Against Missouri Baptist, Gabel, a junior from Richardson, Texas, provided OCU with nine kills, seven digs and two blocks. Macy, a sophomore from Edmond, Okla., contributed eight kills and nine digs, and Chase, a junior from Yukon, Okla., supplied the Stars with 21 assists, eight digs and three aces.
Shiels, a senior from Edmond, Okla., topped OCU with 17 digs. McMullen, a freshman from Edmond, Okla., and Heather Watson, a junior from Edmond, Okla., each had two aces.
OCU takes on Kansas Wesleyan at 10 a.m., then host Evangel (Mo.) at noon Saturday in Springfield, Mo.
