OCU tops Southwestern Assemblies of God 11-0, 15-1

Stars complete four-game sweep of SAGU

WAXAHACHIE, Texas – Oklahoma City University rolled past Southwestern Assemblies of God (Texas) 11-0 and 15-1 Tuesday.
OCU, ranked No. 9 in NAIA softball, outhit the Lady Lions 34-5 in the doubleheader and completed the regular-season sweep SAGU. The sweep moved the Stars to 34-8 overall and 17-5 in Sooner Athletic Conference play.
OCU pushed four runs across in the top of the first inning and added two more in the top of the third to take a 6-0 lead.
OCU put another four spot on the board in the top of the fourth and followed with one more run in the top of the fifth to take the 11-0 victory.
Danielle Fox allowed one run with four strikeouts in three scoreless innings to pick up the win. Maci-Brooke Lambert struck out three in two scoreless innings of relief.
Kayley Humann went 3-for-3 with four RBIs to lead the Stars at the dish. Emily Krienke clubbed a home run and went 2-for-2 with three RBIs.
In game No. 2, the Stars pushed a pair of runs across in the top of the first and added three more in the top of the second to take a 5-1 advantage.
OCU put up eight runs in the top of the third and grabbed a 13-1 advantage to put the game out of reach.
The Stars added insurance runs in the fourth and fifth and cruised to the 15-1 victory.
Maria Gomez allowed three hits and struck out three batters in three innings of work to pick up the win. Jamie Rateliff tossed two scoreless innings in relief.
Eight different Stars drove in one run or more in the nightcap. Jocelin Diaz went 2-for-4 with three RBIs to lead the OCU charge. Kyndra Holasek, Shelbi Legg, Cheyanne Terry and Logan Sundbye all drove in a pair of runs.
OCU will return to action against Southwestern Christian at 5 p.m. Thursday at Ann Lacy Stadium.
