Skates of OCU places sixth in NAIA Championships

Stars finish with 13.5 points in team standings

TOPEKA, Kan. – Zach Skates' bid for a national championship fell short as the Oklahoma City University wrestler finished sixth place at 157 pounds in the NAIA Championships on Saturday at the Topeka Expocentre.
Skates, a sophomore from Broken Arrow, Okla., suffered an injury 5:31 into his championship semifinal match vs. Dallas Houchins of Grand View (Iowa). Skates became a two-time all-American.
Skates' injury forced him to default on two other matches to Chad Cebulski of Great Falls (Mont.) and Shawn McGhee of Campbellsville (Ky.). Skates' bout against McGhee was for fifth place.
Skates finished the season 38-13. He took fifth at 165 in last year's NAIA Championships. Skates became OCU's sixth two-time all-American. He has a 77-26 record in his OCU career.
OCU scored 13.5 points as a team.
