Stars blister Southwestern Assemblies of God 15-1, 11-0

OCU averages 9.0 runs a game

OKLAHOMA CITY – Oklahoma City University ran its win streak to 16 with a 15-1, 11-0 sweep of Southwestern Assemblies of God (Texas) on Tuesday at Ann Lacy Stadium.
Maria Gomez hurled a no-hitter in the first game, while fellow Venezuelan Jocelin Diaz had six hits, four runs scored and three doubles in the twin bill for OCU. The Stars, ranked third in NAIA softball, moved to 20-1, 10-0 in the Sooner Athletic Conference.
The Stars reached double figures in scoring for the 10th time this year and fourth game in a row. OCU had 10 hits or more for the 10th game in 2014 and third contest in a row. The Stars have piled up 189 runs for an average of 9.0 runs a game through 21 games.
In the first game, the Stars erupted for nine runs in the first inning. Kylee Rounsaville put OCU ahead 9-0 with a two-out, two-run double along the left-field foul line. Rounsaville also cranked a two-run home run to center field for a 3-0 Stars advantage. Also in the first, Amanda Ingram smacked a two-run base hit past the second baseman.
Danielle Fox pounded a three-run blast beyond the left-field wall to give OCU a 12-0 lead in the second. Jamie Rateliff knocked in runs with a pair of doubles, while Diaz added an RBI double.
Rounsaville, a junior from Yukon, Okla., went 3-for-4 with two runs scored and four RBIs, and Rateliff, a junior from Mustang, Okla., was 3-for-3 with three runs scored, two doubles and two runs driven in for the Stars. Diaz, a junior from Maracuy, Venezuela, went 3-for-4, two runs scored, two doubles and an RBI.
Fox, a senior from Yukon, Okla., was 2-for-3 with two runs scored and three RBIs, while Terry, a junior from Little Axe, Okla., went 2-for-3, scored twice and drove in two runs. Kyndra Holasek, a sophomore from Mustang, Okla., was 2-for-3 with two runs scored and two stolen bases.
Gomez, a junior from Yaracuy, Venezuela, retired the first six batters she faced. Lynette Riggs of Southwestern Assemblies reached on a walk, got to second on a passed ball, then scored on Holasek's throwing error. Gomez struck out nine in five shutout innings to improve to 9-0.
In the second game, OCU scored its 11 runs through two innings. Diaz and Emily Krienke nailed RBI doubles, while Holasek smacked a run-scoring single to put the Stars ahead 6-0 after the first inning.
In the second inning, Krienke doubled in a run, and Terry had a two-run base hit. Holasek and Legg added RBI singles.
Diaz went 3-for-3, scored twice and drove in a run, and Holasek was 3-for-4 with a run scored and two RBIs. Terry was 2-for-3 with two runs scored and three runs driven in, while Maxime van Dalen, a freshman from Heerhugowaard, Netherlands, was 2-for-2 with a run scored.
Krienke, a junior from Calgary, Alberta, Canada, went 2-for-3 with two runs scored and two RBIs, while Ingram, a redshirt freshman from Oklahoma City, was 2-for-3 with a run scored.
Maci-Brooke Lambert blanked Southwestern Assemblies of God on two hits and a walk in five innings while fanning six. Lambert, a junior from Healdton, Okla., moved to 4-1 on the year.
OCU plays in the David Fillmore Memorial Tournament on Friday and Saturday in Springfield, Mo. The Stars meet Culver-Stockton (Mo.) at 10 a.m., Morningside (Iowa) at noon and Northwestern (Iowa) at 2 p.m. Friday.
