Six Stars seniors play final game at Abe Lemons Arena

THE MATCHUP: Oklahoma City University ends the regular season with a senior day encounter against Oklahoma Baptist.

ABOUT THE STARS: OCU took a 99-91 loss to Mid-America Christian on Thursday at the Gaulke Activity Center in Oklahoma City. OCU (16-10, 12-7 in Sooner Athletic Conference play) rallied from a 19-point deficit and trailed 96-90 after Terry Johnson's jumper with 20 seconds remaining.
R.J. McGhee, a 6-foot-6 senior from Baton Rouge, La., boosted OCU with 25 points, eight rebounds, three assists and two steals. McGhee nailed his fifth 3-pointer of the game to cut OCU's margin to 92-86 with 50 seconds left. He spurs the Stars with 19.6 points, 4.9 rebounds and 1.39 steals per game.
Terry Johnson, a 6-foot senior from Chicago, accumulated 22 points, seven rebounds and four assists. He had his eighth 20-point outing of the season and first since scoring 23 vs. Mid-America Christian on Jan. 18. Johnson records 15.5 points, 4.2 rebounds and 2.6 assists per game. Terence Bonhomme, a 6-foot freshman from St. Martinville, La., had 15 of OCU's 26 bench points. Bonhomme averages 6.6 points, 1.7 rebounds and 1.4 assists a game.
OCU has risen to 12th among the NAIA leaders in team free-throw percentage. The Stars have been hitting free throws at a 72.7 percent clip. To see how the Stars stack up statistically with the rest of the NAIA, click here.
The Stars broke into the NAIA Division I rankings for the first time this season at No. 17. The Stars were picked to finish fourth in the SAC in the preseason coaches' poll. OCU has won national championships in 1991, 1992, 1994, 1996, 2007 and 2008.
OCU has gone 63-44 against Oklahoma Baptist over the years. The Stars escaped the Noble Complex with a 66-65 win on Jan. 16 in Shawnee, Okla. Johnson sank the game-winning trey with 4.7 seconds left.

ABOUT THE BISON: Oklahoma Baptist knocked off Southwestern Christian 93-83 on Thursday in Shawnee, Okla. OBU (14-15, 8-11 SAC) weathered a 19-9 early deficit to lead by as many as 14 points.
Aaron Abram, a 6-5 junior, provided OBU with 24 points, eight rebounds and two steals. Abram leads the Bison with 17.5 points and 8.0 rebounds a game. Cale Jackson, a 6-2 junior, had 22 points, five rebounds and three assists. Jackson averages 15.2 points.
Oklahoma Baptist sinks 38.9 percent of its 3-point shots to rank ninth nationally. League coaches ticketed OBU to take the SAC.

ABOUT THE COACHES: Dionne Phelps owns a record of 45-36 in his third season as OCU coach. He led the Stars to the SAC Tournament title and an NAIA Division I Tournament appearance in 2012-13. Phelps took over the Stars after serving as assistant coach for Oklahoma, which featured future No. 1 NBA Draft pick Blake Griffin during his tenure. Phelps has been a part of four conference title teams as well as three NCAA Tournament teams during his 23-year coaching career. Phelps played for Texas Lutheran, eventually joining the Bulldog Athletic Hall of Fame.
Doug Tolin has guided Oklahoma Baptist to a 393-108 record and the 2010 NAIA Division I title in his 14 seasons at the helm. Tolin's overall coaching record stands at 713-334 in 36 years as a head coach.

POSTSEASON IMPLICATIONS: With a victory, the Stars would gain the No. 2 seed and a first-round bye in the Sooner Athletic Conference Tournament.
With a loss, OCU could fall as low as the fifth seed based on tiebreakers and the outcomes of Saturday's games.

ABOUT THE SAC TOURNAMENT: The nation's premier NAIA basketball conference stages its postseason tournament at the Noble Complex in Shawnee, Okla., on March 5-8. NAIA Division I Tournament berths will be at stake in the Sooner Athletic Conference men's and women's basketball tournaments.
