OCU takes three wins in Cowtown Classic

Stars open season 3-0

FORT WORTH, Texas – Oklahoma City University started the season off with three wins in the Cowtown Senior College Classic at Gateway Park.
The Stars, ranked third in NAIA softball, walloped Baker (Kan.) 9-0, then defeated Graceland (Iowa) 4-1 and Doane (Neb.) 10-6.
Against Baker, Cheyanne Terry and Kylee Rounsaville keyed a seven-run third inning with two-run base hits. OCU compiled 10 hits.
Amanda Ingram, a redshirt freshman from Oklahoma City, went 3-for-3 with two runs scored and two RBIs, while Terry, a junior from Norman, Okla., finished 2-for-4, scored twice and drove in two runs.
Maria Gomez picked up her first victory as a Star. Gomez, a junior from Yaracuy, Venezuela, struck out three in three innings. Jamie Rateliff pitched the final two innings.
Danielle Fox and Maci-Brooke Lambert stymied Graceland, holding Yellowjackets to one run on three hits. Fox, a senior from Yukon, Okla., earned the victory by striking out three in five innings. Lambert, a junior from Healdton, Okla., had three strikeouts in two innings to get the save.
Fox added two RBIs and a double in a 2-for-3 performance. Maxime van Dalen, a freshman from Heerhugowaard, Netherlands, went 2-for-3 with a run driven in.
Against Doane, the Stars scored seven runs in the first inning. Van Dalen got hit by pitch with the bases loaded, then Rateliff and Fox each drew walks with the bases full. Jocelin Diaz cleared the bases with a single.
Kyndra Holasek, a sophomore from Mustang, Okla., was 3-for-4 with a triple and two runs. Fox took her second win by working 1.2 innings.
OCU continues play in the Cowtown Classic against Belhaven (Miss.) at 9 a.m. Saturday, then meets Oklahoma Wesleyan at 11 a.m. at Gateway Park.
