Stars roll past Wayland Baptist 27-9

PLAINVIEW, Texas - Oklahoma City University crushed Wayland Baptist (Texas) 27-9 on Wednesday at the Hutcherson Center.
Derek Sivertsen, a sophomore from Moore, Okla., posted the fall at 197 pounds to touch off a run of four consecutive wins for OCU. The Stars, ranked 12th in NAIA wrestling, moved to 2-2 in duals.
Sivertsen pinned Nik Gates in 20 seconds. Sivertsen holds the No. 8 spot in the 184-pound NAIA rankings.
OCU's Riley Fielder, a freshman from Tuttle, Okla., followed by nipping Travis Morgan 3-2 in the heavyweight match. Adrian Gaines, a sophomore from Lawton, Okla., knocked off Jacob Palmgren 10-7, then Aaron LaFarge, a senior from La Habra Heights, Calif., won 7-4 over Andrew Porras for the Stars, who led 19-3.
Ricky McCarty, Jamie Shawver and Zach Skates of Oklahoma City each won by technical fall. Skates, a junior from Broken Arrow, Okla., took the 157-pound match 14-5 over Kane Lovorn. Skates is ranked fourth nationally at 157.
McCarty, a sophomore from Lawton, Okla., blanked Drake Pilgrim 11-0 at 165. Shawver, a junior from Del City, Okla., started the dual with an 11-0 win over Kyzer Delbusto.
The Stars wrestle again in the Central Missouri Open at 10 a.m. Nov. 16 in Warrensburg, Mo.
