OCU reels in SAC player, hitter of week honors

Stars pull in both honors for first time ever

Kristen Macy tops OCU in kills and points per set.

OKLAHOMA CITY – Kristen Macy of Oklahoma City University has been tabbed the Sooner Athletic Conference volleyball player of the week, while her teammate Meghan Irwin became the SAC hitter of the week for the week of Oct. 20-26.
The Stars swept the league player of the week and hitter of the week awards for the first time. OCU had the SAC player of the week for the second consecutive week for the first time since Xiaoting Ma nabbed the honor for the weeks of Oct. 11-17 and 18-24 in 2010.
Macy, a sophomore from Edmond, Okla., captured her first SAC player of the week nod. Macy recorded 4.63 kills, 2.50 digs, 0.38 blocks and 0.38 aces a set during the week. Macy powered OCU to a five-set win over Oklahoma Baptist, ranked 20th in the NAIA, with 23 kills and 11 digs Thursday. The Stars ended a losing streak to Oklahoma Baptist at nine.
On the year, Macy produces 3.80 kills, 2.89 digs, 0.33 aces, 0.27 blocks and 4.28 points per set for Oklahoma City.
Irwin, a senior from Arlington, Texas, collected her first SAC hitter of the week accolade since the week of Sept. 3-9, 2011. Irwin posted 3.63 kills, 2.25 digs and 0.38 blocks a set last week. Irwin notched 17 kills, 13 digs and three blocks against Oklahoma Baptist. Irwin had been SAC player of the week last week.
In 2014, Irwin has accumulated 3.09 kills, 1.40 digs, 0.71 blocks and 3.56 points per set for the Stars.
OCU plays Southwestern Christian at 7 p.m. Thursday at Abe Lemons Arena. As part of the annual Dig Pink night, Phi Mu will sell t-shirts for $10 each as well as pink ribbons with proceeds benefiting the fight against breast cancer. To watch the match live, click here.
