Stars edge Colorado State-Pueblo 21-20

OCU snaps losing string

Hunter Muskrat won by forfeit against Colorado State-Pueblo.
PUEBLO, Colo. – Oklahoma City University nudged past Colorado State-Pueblo 21-20 on Thursday at Massari Arena.
The Stars got wins from Teagan Franco, Cody Sivertsen and Zach Skates and erased an 11-0 deficit to pick up the win. OCU, ranked 12th in NAIA wrestling, improved to 6-8 on the season.
After losses at 133, 141 and 149 pounds, Skates, a sophomore from Broken Arrow, Okla., earned an 11-5 decision over Larry Schmueser at 157 to cut the CSU-Pueblo lead to 11-3.
Sivertsen, a junior from Moore, Okla., picked up a 4-3 decision at 184 over Augustine DeSantis and Franco, a senior from Spanaway, Wash., notched a 4-1 decision over Levi Jutila at 197. Franco put the Stars in front 15-14.
Trevor Grant of CSU-Pueblo prevailed 5-1 in a matchup of ranked 174-pounders. Grant is ranked eighth in NCAA Division II, while Derek Sivertsen of OCU is ranked fifth among the NAIA.
The Stars got victories by forfeit at 125 and 165 and took the 21-20 victory.
OCU will return to action against New Mexico Highlands at 3 p.m. CST Friday at the John A. Wilson Complex in Las Vegas, N.M.
