OCU knocks off Missouri Baptist 41-3

Stars meet Simon Fraser at 11 a.m. Sunday

Demi Strub took a 6-4, 8-6 victory in the 155-pound match.

DES MOINES, Iowa – Oklahoma City University advanced in the NWCA National Duals with a 41-3 romp past Missouri Baptist on Saturday at Hyvee Hall.
The Stars, ranked third in the Women's College Wrestling Association, improved to 9-1. OCU faces second-ranked Simon Fraser (British Columbia) at 11 a.m. Sunday in the semifinals.
Simon Fraser captured the 2013 NWCA National Duals crown with a 27-13 win over OCU. The Stars had won the previous five NWCA National Duals titles.
OCU benefited from pins by Brieana Delgado and Sherese Thomas. The Stars' Stephanie Geltmacher, Beatrize Martinez and Emily Webster posted technical-fall wins.
Delgado, a junior from Fountain Inn, S.C., won by fall over Montana Drum of sixth-ranked Missouri Baptist 6-0, 1:24 in the 123-pound match. The Stars led 17-1 after Delgado's pin.
Thomas, a sophomore from Grand Prairie, Texas, took care of Aylin Hernandez by a count of 7-2, 2:51. Thomas' victory in the 170-pound bout pushed OCU's advantage to 36-3.
OCU's Rachel McFarland prevailed in a clash of the WCWA's top two individuals in the 130-pound rankings. Top-ranked McFarland, a sophomore from DeWitt, Mich., won 1-0, 7-3 over No. 2 Cheyenne Youngblood.
