OCU splits four matches in Mariner Invitational

Mitcham hands out 40 assists Saturday for Stars

Meghan Irwin totaled 20 kills and nine blocks Saturday for the Stars.

BRUNSWICK, Ga. – Oklahoma City University went winless Saturday, falling 28-26, 20-25, 25-21, 25-23 to Webber International (Fla.) and 25-23, 21-25, 25-15, 26-28, 15-11 to Coastal Georgia in the Coastal Georgia Mariner Invitational at Brunswick High School.
Meghan Irwin paced OCU with 20 kills on the day. The Stars went to 2-2 on the year.
Against Webber International, Irwin posted 11 kills and seven blocks for OCU. Rachel Gabel chipped in nine kills and 11 digs, while Kristen Macy added eight kills and 14 digs. Hannah Mitcham dished out 23 assists, and Tori Thomas provided the Stars with 14 digs.
Against host Coastal Georgia, Torrie Flynn and Tori Leisure knocked down 11 kills each for the Stars. Irwin, a junior from Arlington, Texas, hammered nine kills, and Mitcham racked up 37 assists and 13 digs. Macy had six kills and 17 digs, while Danielle Robison accumulated 17 digs and two aces for OCU.
Making the Mariner Invitational all-tournament team were Macy on the first team and Leisure on the second team.
The Stars meet Bethel (Kan.) at 3 p.m. Friday in the Avila Eagle Invitational at Kansas City, Mo.
