Anderson of OCU wins Bethany Swede Open crown

Five Stars place in tournament, Skates places in ninth tournament in a row

LINDSBORG, Kan. – Trevor Anderson of Oklahoma City University took the 149-pound title in the Bethany Swede Open on Saturday at Smoky Valley High School.
OCU had five placers in the tournament. The Stars' Jared Bass at 174 and Zach Skates at 165 picked up third-place finishes, and Adrian Gaines at 125 and Derek Sivertsen at 184 were fourth.
Anderson, a freshman from Spanaway, Wash., snagged two falls and a major-decision victory. Anderson started the day pinning Klay Kasik of Nebraska-Kearney in 6:35. In the championship match, Anderson won the crown with a fall over Tyler Anderson of Nebraska-Kearney in 3:47.
Skates, a sophomore from Stillwater, Okla., placed in his ninth consecutive tournament for the Stars. Skates notched a pin and two major-decision wins at Smoky Valley Middle School. Skates pinned Andrew Larson of Wayne State (Neb.) in 2:31.
In the third-place match, Skates knocked off Jordon Ward of Bethany (Kan.) 15-6.
Bass, a junior from Cushing, Okla., went 4-1 on the day. Bass won 7-3 over Joe Madison of York (Neb.) to get third place.
Gaines, a freshman from Lawton, Okla., fell 8-5 to Connor Bolling of Nebraska-Kearney in the 125-pound third-place bout. Gaines prevailed 3-2 over Nebraska-Kearney's Jake Gentzler to get into the third-place match.
Sivertsen, a freshman from Moore, Okla., stuck three pins Saturday – defeating Kale Hintz of Concordia (Neb.), Roman Garcia of Baker (Kan.) and Spencer Wilson. Nebraska-Kearney's Matt Lenagh took third with a 9-1 win over Sivertsen.
The Stars meet Wayland Baptist (Texas) at 7 p.m. Nov. 20 in Plainview, Texas.
