OBU deals Stars setback

Macy tops OCU with nine kills

Kristen Macy led OCU in kills for the third consecutive contest.

SHAWNEE, Okla. – Oklahoma City University concluded its volleyball regular season with a 25-16, 26-24, 25-20 loss to nationally-ranked Oklahoma Baptist on Friday at the Noble Complex.
Kristen Macy, a freshman from Edmond, Okla., netted nine kills, 11 digs and two solo blocks for the Stars. OCU went to 18-13, 9-7 in the Sooner Athletic Conference.
Oklahoma Baptist, ranked seventh in the NAIA, plays host to the SAC Tournament on Nov. 15-16 after winning the league regular-season championship. Pairings are to be announced.
Danielle Robison, a senior from Dallas, accumulated 16 digs and six assists to up her OCU career-record total to 1,559 digs. Hannah Mitcham, a sophomore from Fort Worth, Texas, notched 11 assists and three kills for the Stars.
Tori Thomas, a redshirt freshman from Norman, Okla., picked up 10 digs, and Tori Leisure contributed six kills and three digs for OCU.
The Stars scored the first four points of the second set as Meghan Irwin had a kill and a block. Irwin pounded a kill that put OCU ahead 14-9 to cap a 5-0 run.
OCU had set point at 24-23, but Oklahoma Baptist responded with a block from Lacy Herbert and Patricia Moura. Carey Strong completed Oklahoma Baptist's rally with an ace to clinch the set.
Leisure hammered two kills to help the Stars go up 4-0 in the third set. Macy nailed a kill to put OCU up 18-15, but OBU took the lead for good with four points in a row.
Oklahoma Baptist (30-5, 16-0) won its 46th consecutive SAC match, going unbeaten in conference play for the third consecutive year and winning its fourth SAC title in a row. Lubbock Christian (Texas) dealt Oklahoma Baptist its last league loss Oct. 23, 2010.
