The Stars seized the lead with a 18-0 run close to midway through the first half. Christina Kime nailed a trey to tie the game 12-12 at the 14:15 mark, but Austin went without a point for the next 4:51 off the game clock.
Coulibaly scored nine points in OCU's splurge including seven consecutive points during one stretch. Tommitrise Collins sank a layup that grew the Stars' advantage to 30-12 with 9:37 showing in the first.
OCU scored the final 15 points of the first period. Coulibaly had 10 points in a row for the Stars during that stretch.
Lau dropped in a 3-pointer with 37 seconds left for the final margin and OCU's largest lead of the game.
"We have areas that we must improve on and areas that we need to build on," Trammell said. "This was a very good season opener."
