Franco, Muskrat among winners in Black-Blue Ranking Matches

Black, Blue tie 16-16

Hunter Muskrat notched a victory at 157 pounds.

OKLAHOMA CITY – Oklahoma City University's Black team and Blue team tied 16-16 Wednesday in the Black-Blue Ranking Matches at Abe Lemons Arena.
Black held a 16-13 advantage heading into the final match where sophomore Destin Theus topped freshman Harvey James 6-3 at 285 pounds to give Blue three points and even the score at 16-16.
Adrian Gaines, a freshman from Lawton, Okla., started the dual with a major decision over Alvie Killingsworth at 125 to give Blue an early lead.
Black responded with a 7-4 decision at 133 from freshman Lino Gomez, of El Paso, Texas, and a 15-7 major decision at 141 from James Landoll, a freshman from Marysville, Kan., to take a 7-4 lead.
At 149, freshman Ricky McCarty, of Lawton, Okla., tied the dual at 7-7 with a 6-1 decision for Blue.
Black regained the lead when Hunter Muskrat, a senior from Stilwell, Okla., picked up a 9-3 decision at 157, but Blue drew even with 9-2 decision from sophomore Zach Skates, of Broken Arrow, at 165 to make the score 10-10.
Jared Bass, a junior from Cushing, Okla., gave Black a 14-7 decision at 174, but Blue responded again with a 6-1 decision from sophomore Derek Sivertsen, of Moore, Okla., at 184 to make the score 13-13.
Teagan Franco, a senior from Spanaway, Wash., scored a 3-1 decision at 197 in the final second of the match to give Black a 16-13 lead.
Theus, of River Ridge, La., gave Blue a 6-3 decision over James, of Lancaster, Texas, and tied the score at 16-16.
OCU will open its regular season in the Oklahoma City Open at 9 a.m. Sunday at Abe Lemons Arena and will take on Oklahoma Nov. 5 at McCasland Field House in Norman, Okla.
