Stars take wins vs. Central Oklahoma, Langston

Macy racks up 22 kills Saturday for OCU

EDMOND, Okla. – Oklahoma City University clipped Central Oklahoma 25-20, 25-22, 19-25, 16-25, 15-7 to highlight a 2-0 day on Saturday at Hamilton Field House.
The Stars also blasted Langston 25-17, 25-13, 25-13 on Saturday. OCU improved to 14-8 on the year.
OCU snapped a three-match losing string to Central Oklahoma, notching its first win over the Bronchos since 2008. The Stars upped their 2013 record in five-set matches to 3-2.
"We came out on a mission this afternoon," OCU coach Nikki Dieball said. "They played so hard and were able to execute well offensively. We had to call on both setters today, and they did a great job. Everyone did their part, and it was so fun to watch."
Kristen Macy, a freshman from Edmond, Okla., posted her sixth double-double of the year with 16 kills, 15 digs and two aces, while Rachel Gabel, a sophomore from Richardson, Texas, recorded her fifth double-double with 13 kills, 15 digs and two blocks for the Stars.
Heather Watson, a sophomore from Edmond, Okla., produced 26 assists and eight digs, and Hannah Mitcham, a sophomore from Fort Worth, Texas, totaled 20 assists, three kills and two digs for OCU.
The Stars' Danielle Robison, a senior from Dallas, piled up 16 digs and five aces, and Tori Thomas, a redshirt freshman from Norman, Okla., scooped nine digs. Tori Leisure, a sophomore from Haslet, Texas, nailed 12 kills, and Meghan Irwin, a junior from Arlington, Texas, picked up 11 kills and two blocks.
In the decisive fifth set, OCU reeled off four consecutive points to go up 7-2. Mitcham's kill capped the run, while Gabel hammered a kill to touch off the run. Irwin and Macy teamed on a block to put OCU ahead 6-2.
The Stars scored four of the set's final five points. Leisure socked a kill for a 12-6 OCU lead, then Gabel and Irwin had a block to put OCU up 13-6. Mitcham's kill gave the Stars match point at 14-7, then Gabel nailed a kill to clinch the contest.
Macy had two kills as OCU put together a 6-1 lead en route to winning the first set.
Against Langston, Macy had six kills, three digs and two aces for OCU. Gabel and Chazmin Franklin added six kills each, and Mitcham accumulated 15 assists, four digs and three kills.
Leisure provided OCU with five kills, and Robison had 10 digs and four aces.
The Stars resume Sooner Athletic Conference play against Southwestern Christian at 7 p.m. Tuesday in Bethany, Okla.
