Stars top St. Gregory's 94-43

SHAWNEE, Okla. – Oklahoma City University downed St. Gregory's 94-43 Thursday at W.P. Wood Field House.
OCU's Lauren Gober, a senior from Newcastle, Okla., scored 11 points and passed the 1,500-point mark for her career in the process. Gober joined such OCU greats as Kesha Watson (2,658 points), Catherine Walker (1,806 points), Mary Ogunsola (more than 1,800 points), Denise Hannah (1,755 points), Janeth Torijano (1,682 points) and Sadio Sangare (1,526 points) with 1,500 career points.
The 6-foot-2 forward is also OCU's career 3-point record holder. She increased her OCU career record to 271 3-pointers.
“She is an amazing young woman,” OCU coach Latricia Trammell said. “She means a lot to our program and to OCU. I tried to call a timeout after she hit the mark so our fans could recognize her.”
The Stars, ranked No. 4 in NAIA Division I women's basketball, got double-digit points from five players to pick up their 15th consecutive victory and improve to 16-2 overall and 8-0 in Sooner Athletic Conference play.
St. Gregory's kept the game close early in the first half. OCU went to work in the paint at the 17:22 mark, getting buckets from Katie Hall and Cara Pugh to spark a 12-3 Stars' run. Autumn Huffman capped the scoring with a second-change bucket and gave OCU an 18-7 lead with 11 minutes and 49 second to go in the half.
The Lady Cavaliers responded with a 14-4 run of their own. Stacy Lee hit a 3-point jumper to cut the OCU lead to 22-21 at the 7:50 mark of the first period.
The Stars countered with a 24-2 run to close the half and take a 46-23 lead to the locker room at halftime.
Hall paced the Stars with 16 first-half points on 7-of-9 shooting from the floor. OCU forced 19 turnovers in the first frame and shot 52 percent from the field as a team.
The Stars opened the second half with 13 unanswered points to stretch their lead to 36 with 16:55 left on the clock.
OCU maintained its double-digit advantage and led by as many as 50 points en route to the 94-43 victory.
The Stars scored 29 points off 33 turnovers and outscored the Lady Cavaliers 19-9 in bench points. OCU outrebounded St. Gregory's 49-30 and scored 21 second-chance points.
Hall scored a season-high 22 points to lead the Stars. The senior from Hazelton, Idaho, also grabbed a game-high 10 rebounds to notch her sixth double-double of the season.
Desiree Jeffries posted 19 points, eight rebounds and six assists on the night. Ravven Brown tallied 14 points, five rebounds and five steals, and Kayla MacKenzie and Gober followed with 11 points apiece.
The Stars will return to action Jan. 31 against Wayland Baptist (Texas) at 6.p.m. at Abe Lemons Arena.
