Stars pound Mid-America Christian 75-49

Gober leads OCU to 14th consecutive win with 23 points

Lauren Gober boosted her career numbers to 1,492 points and 268 3-pointers, the latter of which is OCU's career record.

OKLAHOMA CITY – Oklahoma City University walloped Mid-America Christian 75-49 on Tuesday at Abe Lemons Arena.
Lauren Gober, a senior from Newcastle, Okla., spearheaded the Stars with 23 points, eight rebounds, two blocked shots and three steals. OCU, ranked fourth in NAIA Division I women's basketball, moved to 15-2, 7-0 in the Sooner Athletic Conference.
Gober stood eight points shy of 1,500 career points at 1,492. Gober hit two 3-pointers Tuesday to increase her OCU career record total to 268 treys.
OCU's Katie Hall, a senior from Hazelton, Idaho, posted her team-high fifth double-double of the season with 12 points and 13 rebounds to equal her season high in rebounds. Desiree Jeffries, a senior from Oklahoma City, provided the Stars with 12 points, six rebounds, four assists and two blocks.
Kayla MacKenzie, a junior from Peoria, Ariz., contributed 11 points, six rebounds and two steals for OCU.
The Stars forged a 46-28 rebounding advantage and 20-15 edge in second-chance points. OCU also created lopsided margins in points in the paint (54-20), points off turnovers (30-10) and fastbreak points (12-0).
“I thought we rebounded the ball well,” OCU coach Latricia Trammell said. “We have worked hard in practice on correcting a few things, and I saw it executed tonight, which I am proud of. I am also proud of our team effort.”
MacKenzie tallied eight points during OCU's 15-1 run in the second half. MacKenzie had two free throws and two transition buckets. MacKenzie pocketed a theft and scored on a breakaway basket to cap the run and give the Stars their largest lead of the night, 62-31 with 13:20 left in the game.
Gober recorded eight points as the Stars scored the game's first 12 points. OCU sank 5 of its first 7 attempts from the field, while Mid-America committed three turnovers and missed two shots during the game's first 2:38.
Autumn Huffman's lay-in produced a 30-10 OCU advantage with 8:08 to go in the first half. The Stars created their lead with the aid of an 11-0 run.
OCU meets St. Gregory's at 6 p.m. Thursday in Shawnee, Okla.
