Stars pound Mid-America Christian 8-0, 12-0

OCU pitchers allowed six hits in two games to record the sweep

Tori Joyner went 5-for-6 with five runs and an RBI in two games against Mid-America Christian Tuesday.
OKLAHOMA CITY – Third-ranked Oklahoma City University pounded Mid-America Christian 8-0 and 12-0 in a doubleheader Tuesday at Ann Lacy Stadium.
The sweep moves the Stars, ranked No. 3 in NAIA softball, to 26-16 overall and 11-3 in Sooner Athletic Conference play.
OCU plated five runs in the top of the first inning. Emily Krienke, Magean De La Torre and Danielle Fox all drove in runs to give the Stars a 5-0 lead.
Krienke drove in Tori Joyner with a sacrifice fly to right field in the bottom of the second to make the score 6-0. Angela Lovelady's RBI single to left pushed OCU's lead to 7-0.
Jamie Rateliff provided an RBI single through the left side of the infield in the bottom of the sixth to give the Stars the 8-0 run-rule win.
Lily LaVelle tossed six scoreless innings and struck out 14 to pick up the win and move to 27-1 on the season. The senior from Bridge Creek, Okla., flirted with a perfect game, but gave one hit on bunt single in the top of the fifth.
Krienke went 2-for-3 with two RBIs to lead OCU at the plate. De La Torre, Fox, Lovelady and Rateliff drove in one run apiece.
OCU snagged a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first in the second game. After Joyner scored on an error, LaVelle was driven in by LeeAnn Lopez to put the Stars on top early.
The Stars racked up 10 runs in the bottom of the third. Joyner led off with a double and was driven in by LaVelle to make the score 3-0. Kylee Rounsaville, Fox, Joyner, LaVelle and De La Torre added RBIs in the inning to push the OCU advantage to 12-0.
A.J. Woodward handled the Mid-America hitters in the fourth and fifth innings to give OCU the 12-0 run-rule victory. The senior from Menifee, Calif., gave up five hits and struck out four in the shutout to move to 10-1 on the season.
Fox went 2-fo-3 with two RBIs and LaVelle finished 1-for-2 with a pair of RBIs to lead the Stars at the dish.
OCU will return to action against Southern Nazarene Thursday in a 5 p.m. doubleheader at Ann Lacy Stadium.
