OCU vs. St. Gregory's women's basketball preview

THE MATCHUP: Oklahoma City University head coach Rob Edmisson looks for his 500th career win on all levels as the top-ranked Stars take on Sooner Athletic Conference foe St. Gregory's.
Tickets are $7 for adults and $5 for students, while OCU students, faculty and staff are allowed into all regular-season OCU athletics events for free with their ID.
 
ABOUT THE STARS: The Stars clinched their 14th straight 20-win season with a 102-49 victory over Oklahoma Baptist Thursday at the Noble Complex. The win bumps OCU to 20-1 overall and 14-1 in SAC play.
Junior Lauren Gober led all scorers with 23 points on 46 percent shooting from the field and 55 percent from behind the 3-point line. The 6-foot-2 forward also pulled down 10 rebounds to post her third double-double of the season. Gober is 11th in NAIA Division I in 3-point field goals made per game with 2.5.
Guard Kayla MacKenzie posted 14 points and four rebounds in the OCU victory. The sophomore from Peoria, Ariz., shot 4-for-6 from the floor and 2-for-4 from 3-point range against Oklahoma Baptist. MacKenize averages 9.2 points per game on the season.
Dietra Caldwell, of Missouri City, Texas, chipped in with 13 points, six rebounds, five steals and four assists. The senior guard leads OCU in scoring with 13.3 points per game. Caldwell is ranked second in the nation in assists/turnover ratio, passing out 3.6 assists to every one turnover.
OCU is No. 1 in NAIA Division I in scoring margin, outscoring opponents by 36.6 points per game, and is ranked in the top-5 in the nation in 13 statistical categories. To see how the Stars stack up with the rest of the NAIA, click here.
The Stars held the top spot in the latest NAIA Division I poll, and currently sit in second in the SAC standings. OCU was favored to win the conference in the preseason.
OCU holds a 30-1 all-time record over St. Gregory's. In the last meeting between the two the Stars roughed up the Cavaliers 83-50 at Abe Lemons Arena.
 
ABOUT THE CAVALIERS: St. Gregory's picked up a 75-63 win over Mid-America Christian at W.P. Wood Field House Thursday. The Cavaliers are 15-7 overall and 8-7 in SAC play.
Guard Leticia Silva led the charge with 20 points and six rebounds against Mid-America Christian. Silva leads St. Gregory's in scoring, averaging 17.1 points per contest.
Forward Kylie Mayes followed with 16 points and nine rebounds. The 6-foot-2 Mayes puts up 13 points and 5.8 rebounds per game.
Jalisa Howard added 13 points, nine rebounds and seven assists. The Guard from Houston is ninth in the nation in total steals with 63.
The Cavaliers are ranked fifth in the nation in blocks per game, swatting 5.0 shots per outing, and field goal percentage, shooting 45 percent from the floor. St. Gregory's is currently fifth in the SAC standings after being picked to finish 12th in the preseason.
 
ABOUT THE COACHES: Rob Edmisson has posted a stellar 197-31 record in his seventh season at OCU and a 499-150 record overall in his 22nd season as a head coach. Edmisson, a two-time SAC coach of the year, has led the Stars to SAC regular-season championships four times and four SAC Tournament titles. Edmisson coached the only player drafted into the WNBA from OCU, Mariam Sy, as well as six others who turned professional. He won 192 games at Hutchinson (Kan.) and 110 as a high-school coach in Kansas.
Kelly Archer owns a 33-77 record in his fourth season as St. Gregory's head coach. Archer led Hillsdale Baptist to five national titles in the National Christian Collegiate Athletic Association prior to his arrival at St. Gregory's.
