OCU vs. Rogers State women's basketball preview

THE MATCHUP: Top-ranked Oklahoma City University plays host to Sooner Athletic Conference opponent Rogers State.
Tickets are $7 for adults and $5 for students, while OCU students, faculty and staff are allowed into all regular-season OCU athletics events for free with their ID.
 
ABOUT THE STARS: The 23-1 Stars gave coach Rob Edmisson his 200th win as the head man at OCU with a 60-51 win over No. 7 Lubbock Christian (Texas) Saturday at the Rip Griffin Center in Lubbock Texas. The win moves OCU to 17-1 in SAC play.
Senior Tiffany Goldwire led the way for the Stars with 14 points and four rebounds. The 5-foot-9 guard from Oklahoma City scored on 7-of-8 attempts from the floor in 20 minutes of action. Goldwire leads OCU in rebounding, pulling down 6.4 boards per game.
Guard Dietra Caldwell added 11 points and seven rebounds while shooting 75 percent from behind the 3-point line against Lubbock Christian. The senior from Missouri City, Texas, leads the Stars in scoring with 12.8 points per game and is second in NAIA Division I in assists/turnover ratio, passing out 3.2 assists to every one turnover.
Desiree Jeffries, of Oklahoma City, chipped in 11 points and five rebounds in the 60-51 victory.  The junior forward was a perfect 5-for-5 from the floor on the afternoon and leads OCU in field goal percentage at 59 percent on the season. Jefferies also leads the team in total defensive rebounds with 105.
The Stars are currently No.1 in the nation in scoring margin, outscoring opponents by 34.5 points per game, and are ranked in the top-10 in 15 statistical categories. To see how OCU stacks up with the rest of NAIA Division I, click here.
OCU sits in the top spot in the latest NAIA Division I poll for the third straight week and for the sixth time this season. The Stars are now tied for first in the SAC standings and were picked to win the conference in the preseason.
The Stars own a 9-1 all-time record over Rogers State. In the last meeting between the two, OCU pulled off a 70-57 road win on Jan. 5 at the Claremore Expo Center in Claremore, Okla.
 
ABOUT THE HILLCATS: Rogers State took down Oklahoma Christian 72-55 Saturday at the Claremore Expo Center. With the win the Hillcats improved to 17-9 overall and 11-7 in SAC play.
Guard Sierra Cornwell posted a game-high 22 points, six rebounds and five steals against Oklahoma Christian. Cornwell leads NAIA Division I in total steals with 98 takeaways on the season.
Leading scorer Leah Smith added 19 points on 53 percent shooting from the field and 75 percent from behind the 3-point line. Smith averages 12.6 points per contest.
6-foot-1 Gianna Woods chipped in with nine points and nine rebounds Saturday. Woods leads the Hillcats in rebounding, pulling down 8.8 boards per outing.
Rogers State ranks in the top-10 in 3-point field goal percentage, total steals and turnover margin. The Hillcats currently sits in fourth place in the SAC standings and were picked to finish fourth in the preseason.
 
ABOUT THE COACHES: Edmisson has posted a stellar 200-31 record in his seventh season at OCU and a 502-150 record overall in his 22nd season as a head coach. Edmisson, a two-time SAC coach of the year, has led the Stars to four SAC regular-season championships and four SAC Tournament titles. Edmisson coached the only player drafted into the WNBA from OCU, Mariam Sy, as well as six other Stars who have turned professional. He won 192 games at Hutchinson (Kan.) and 110 as a high-school coach in Kansas.
Amy Williams has a 92-61 career record in her fifth season as the only women's basketball coach Rogers State has had. Edmisson and Williams were assistants on the same coaching staff at Oklahoma State.
