OCU at Lubbock Christian men's basketball preview

THE MATCHUP: Oklahoma City University will look to complete a two-game sweep of its Texas road trip against Lubbock Christian (Texas).

ABOUT THE STARS: The Stars notched a 74-51 win over Wayland Baptist (Texas) in Plainview, Texas. OCU (11-10, 8-9 Sooner Athletic Conference) built advantages in rebounding (39-28) and second-chance points (18-8).
Troynell Adams, a 6-foot-4 junior from Chicago, scored a game-high 20 points to go with five rebounds, two assists and two steals. He shot 7-for-12 shots from the field and hit two 3-pointers. Adams tallies 8.0 points and 3.0 rebounds per game.
Orlan Jackman, a 6-6 senior from London, collected his team-high seventh double-double with 17 points, 13 rebounds and two blocked shots. Jackman averages team highs with 13.4 points and 8.2 rebounds a game. Tim Morton, a 6-9 sophomore from Capital Heights, Md., went for his third double-double this season with 14 points and 12 rebounds. Morton puts together 10.4 points and 6.4 rebounds a game and sinks a team-high 56.2 percent of his shots from the floor.

The Stars are unranked in the latest NAIA Division I rankings. OCU currently sits tied for seventh in the league after being pegged to finish seventh in the SAC in the preseason.
OCU owns a 33-9 all-time record against Lubbock Christian. Lubbock Christian edged OCU 62-59 using Douglas Williams' trey as time expired Jan. 12 at Abe Lemons Arena. Shane Rogers led the Stars with 16 points.
 
ABOUT THE CHAPARRALS: Charlie Shorter nailed a 3-pointer with 2.8 seconds left as Mid-America Christian nipped Lubbock Christian 93-90 on Thursday in Lubbock, Texas. Lubbock Christian (11-12, 7-9 SAC) hit 57.9 percent from the field and 13 of 23 3-pointers.
Tyler Kennedy, a 6-foot junior, came off the bench to provide 27 points and eight treys. He chips in 8.1 points a game while knocking in 39.5 percent from 3-point range. Rashad Sample, a 6-foot senior, had 19 points and nine assists. He tops Lubbock Christian with 17.0 points and 6.6 assists a game while leading the league in assists.
SAC coaches predicted Lubbock Christian would finish 10th in the league in the preseason.

ABOUT THE COACHES: Dionne Phelps enters his first season as a head coach with OCU. Phelps took over the Stars after serving as assistant coach for Oklahoma, which featured future No. 1 overall NBA Draft choice Blake Griffin. Phelps has been a part of four conference title teams as well as three NCAA Tournament teams during his 22-year coaching career. Phelps played for Texas Lutheran, eventually joining the Bulldog Athletic Hall of Fame.
Todd Duncan is in his first season as Lubbock Christian coach after serving 15 years as Lubbock Trinity Christian School (Texas) boys basketball coach and athletic director. He notched 400 wins and the 1999 state championship.
