OCU vs. Langston women's basketball preview

Tiffany Bellamy has averaged 2.0 points a game this season for the Stars.

THE MATCHUP: Oklahoma City University collides with Langston in matchup of top 25-ranked squads in NAIA Division I women's basketball.
Tickets are $7 for adults and $5 for students, while OCU students, faculty and staff are allowed into all regular-season OCU athletics events for free with their ID. A lucky OCU student will win a pair of Oklahoma City Thunder tickets courtesy the university student activity committee. 

ABOUT THE STARS: The Stars dropped a 66-52 decision to Northeastern State, ranked 23rd in NCAA Division II, on Saturday in Weatherford, Okla. OCU managed to shoot 37.3 percent from the field against Northeastern.
Lauren Gober, a 6-foot-2 senior from Newcastle, Okla., posted 12 points and three rebounds Saturday. A two-time all-American, Gober has piled up 1,241 career points.
Autumn Huffman, a 5-9 junior from Midwest City, Okla., totaled 10 points and six rebounds against Northeastern. Huffman averaged 4.2 points and 3.9 rebounds a game for Central Oklahoma last season. Kayla MacKenzie, a 5-6 junior from Peoria, Ariz., contributed nine points while sinking two 3-pointers Saturday. MacKenzie has canned 168 3-pointers in her OCU career.
The Stars has been ranked 10th in NAIA Division I in the preseason rankings. Defending national champion OCU has been listed in all 154 polls since 1999-2000. The Stars own national championships from 1988, 1999, 2000, 2001, 2002 and 2012. SAC coaches predicted OCU would finish third place in the Sooner Athletic Conference.
OCU has gone 25-1 all-time vs. Langston. The Stars prevailed 70-65 on Nov. 4, 2010 in Langston, Okla., in the last meeting. Desiree Jeffries sparked OCU with 17 points and three assists.

ABOUT THE LADY LIONS: Langston dropped to 0-2 on the season in a 40-39 loss to Rogers State on Nov. 6 in Claremore, Okla. Langston scored the contest's final six points, including Victoria Felix's bucket with two seconds left.
Tayla Vaughn, a 6-foot senior, topped Langston with 11 points, 10 rebounds and three steals. Felix, a 6-foot senior, had 10 points and four rebounds.
Langston, ranked 14th nationally, has been favored to win the Red River Athletic Conference in the preseason.
 
ABOUT THE COACHES: Latricia Trammell is in the midst of her first season as head coach of the Stars. Trammell returns to OCU after serving as Western State (Colo.) head coach the past five seasons. At Western State, Trammell had 13 all-RMAC selections, including the RMAC West Division freshman of the year and RMAC player of the year. Trammell was assistant coach at OCU from 2005-07. As an assistant at OCU, Trammell mentored the Stars' first WNBA draftee, Mariam Sy of the Washington Mystics, 10 all-conference choices, the SAC player of the year, SAC newcomer of the year and four all-Americans. Trammell also spent time as head coach at Midwest City High School and Bill Ryan High School (Texas).
David Johnson is in his first season guiding Langston after taking over from Jerome Willis. His assistant, Natasha Doh, became SAC freshman of the year while playing for OCU in 2004-05.
