OCU dispatches of Mid-America Christian

Leisure posts 10 kills, while Mitcham racks up 33 assists for Stars

OKLAHOMA CITY – Oklahoma City University notched a Sooner Athletic Conference victory over Mid-America Christian 25-19, 25-12, 25-16 on Tuesday at Abe Lemons Arena.
Tori Leisure, a freshman from Haslet, Texas, spearheaded the Stars with 10 kills. OCU moved to 11-15, 2-3 in SAC volleyball.
Hannah Mitcham, a freshman from Fort Worth, Texas, amassed 33 assists, nine digs and four kills, while Rachel Gabel, a freshman from Richardson, Texas, produced nine kills, six digs and two aces for the Stars.
OCU's Danielle Robison, a junior from Dallas, scooped 14 digs, and Torrie Flynn, a junior from Edmond, Okla., picked up four kills and a team-high six blocks. Meghan Irwin, a sophomore from Arlington, Texas, added five kills and two blocks, and Anna Gentry, a junior from Stillwater, Okla., contributed nine digs.
Flynn and Irwin combined to score the final four points of the first set for OCU. Irwin smacked a kill that put the Stars in front 22-19, then teamed with Flynn on back-to-back blocks. Flynn pounded a kill that clinched the first set for the Stars.
The Stars rode a 12-3 advantage en route to taking the second set. Aspen Healy crushed a pair of kills, while Gentry's ace gave OCU its 12-3 lead and a 6-0 run. OCU scored six of the final seven points of the second set as Delainey Messenger nailed the kill that gave her squad the set.
OCU erased a 7-6 third-set deficit with six consecutive points. Gabel and Mitcham had kills, then Leisure posted two kills in a row as the Stars led 12-7. Mitcham's kill finished off the OCU victory.
The Stars meet John Brown (Ark.) at 11 a.m. Saturday, then face MidAmerica Nazarene (Kan.) at 1 p.m. Saturday in Siloam Springs, Ark.
