OBU knocks off Stars

Irwin tops OCU with 10 kills

Box Score SHAWNEE, Okla. – Oklahoma City University dropped a 25-16, 25-14, 25-19 contest to nationally-ranked Oklahoma Baptist on Friday at the Noble Complex.
Meghan Irwin, a sophomore from Arlington, Texas, led OCU with 10 kills. The Stars went to 13-19, 3-5 in the Sooner Athletic Conference, while Oklahoma Baptist, ranked 10th in NAIA volleyball, improved to 24-4, 8-0 SAC.
OBU set a league record with its 26th consecutive SAC volleyball win.
Hannah Mitcham, a freshman from Fort Worth, Texas, produced 22 assists, six digs and three kills for OCU. Rachel Gabel, a freshman from Richardson, Texas, topped the Stars with 10 digs while adding five kills.
Gabel and Mitcham had kills that put OCU ahead 11-8 in the third set. Irwin hammered a kill that gave the Stars a 13-12 edge. Skyler Strahm socked a kill that put Oklahoma Baptist in front 15-14. OBU maintained the lead to complete its win.
The Stars take on Wayland Baptist (Texas) at 7 p.m. Friday, Oct. 26 in Plainview, Texas.
