OCU finishes fourth in NWCA National Duals

Fourth-ranked Stars notch best finsh ever in NWCA National Duals

Nik Turner is ranked second in the NAIA at 157 pounds.

SPRINGFIELD, Ill. – Oklahoma City University completed its finest men's wrestling finish in the NWCA National Duals by falling 21-16 to Great Falls (Mont.) and 32-9 to Southern Oregon on Sunday at the Prairie Capital Convention Center.
OCU, ranked fourth in the NAIA, took fourth place in the NWCA National Duals. The Stars went to 5-4.
The Stars finished fifth place in the 2008 NWCA National Duals.
Against top-ranked Great Falls, Andrew Pontikes provided OCU a 13-12 edge after winning 7-3 in the 184-pound match.
Great Falls answered as Kamron Jackson pinned Mitchell Eichenauer at 197. Great Falls' Sears Tiernan won 10-8 in overtime over Michael Brown in the 285-pound bout.
The Stars mounted a comeback from a 12-4 deficit. OCU's Nik Turner won 10-4 over Michael Hader at 157, then Kevin Hardy defeated Ryan Leonard 8-0 at 165. Derek Peperas knocked off Noah Hatton 6-3 in the 174-pound match.
Against third-ranked Southern Oregon, the Stars notched two wins. Turner won 9-4 over Tommy Norton-Hooper at 157. Hardy pinned Brian Lemmon in 4:32 at 165.
OCU takes on Newman (Kan.) at 4:30 p.m., Neosho County (Kan.) in an exhibition dual 6:30 p.m., and Nebraska-Kearney at 8:30 p.m. Wednesday at Abe Lemons Arena.
