Stars set to wrestle Central Oklahoma

OCU competes in final home dual of 2011-12 at 7 p.m. Wednesday at Abe Lemons Arena

Will Shelton-Delk has compiled a 13-8 record this season.
OKLAHOMA CITY – Oklahoma City University hosts traditional wrestling power Central Oklahoma at 7 p.m. Wednesday in the Stars' final home dual of the season.
OCU, ranked fifth in the NAIA, enters the dual with a 7-5 record. The Stars boast of seven ranked individuals, including top-ranked Kevin Hardy at 165 pounds and Nik Turner at 157.
Hardy, a senior from Solon, Ohio, joined the Stars after becoming an all-American with two-time national champion Notre Dame (Ohio). Hardy captured the Missouri Valley Invitational 165-pound title on Saturday in Marshall, Mo. Hardy has taken four tournament crowns and finished runner-up in another this season.
Turner, a senior from Norman, Okla., has returned to OCU's lineup after redshirting last season. A two-time all-American, Turner won the Missouri Valley Invitational for his third tournament title of the season and fifth of his Stars career.
“We're tough,” OCU coach Archie Randall said. “We're even. It depends on who gets bonus points. It's going to be a great event to watch packed full of excitement. It will come down to that one kid you won't expect to be in the spotlight.”
OCU's Kidd Gomez, a junior from Noble, Okla., stands fourth in the NAIA's 125-pound ratings, while Derek Peperas, a senior from Albuquerque, N.M., sits fifth in the 174-pound rankings. Michael Brown, a freshman from Noble, Okla., appears at No. 7 in the 285-pound ratings, and Andrew Pontikes, a senior from Elgin, Okla., is eighth at 184.
Mitchell Eichenauer, a junior from Lawton, Okla., holds the 11th spot in the 197 rankings. Eichenauer, Turner, Tyson Campbell and assistant coach John Wilcox were in OCU's lineup for the Stars' only dual victory ever over Central Oklahoma 24-21 on Dec. 4, 2007 at Abe Lemons Arena. Eichenauer is a two-time all-American who finished as NAIA runner-up at 184 as a sophomore in 2008-09.
Central Oklahoma, sixth-ranked in NCAA Division II, holds a 6-4 ledger this season. Three Central Oklahoma individuals show up in the D-II rankings – Tanner Keck, ranked second at 184; Cory Dauphin, fourth at 157 and Trison Graham, sixth at 133. Neither Cory Dauphin nor Graham are expected to compete Wednesday.
Tickets will be $6, $4 for students and free to OCU students, faculty and staff with their ID. The dual will be available for viewing via live video stream on OCU's Stretch Internet portal at a cost of $6.95.
