OKLAHOMA CITY – Oklahoma City University signed Tori Thomas of Norman, Okla., as its first volleyball recruit for the 2012 season.
As a junior, the 5-foot-6 libero was named to all-tournament teams at the Broken Arrow Tournament, Stillwater Invitational and Westmoore Invitational. Last fall Thomas helped lead Norman North to Mid-State Conference and regional championships as well as an appearance in the Class 6A state tournament quarterfinals.
Thomas has played four years of varsity volleyball at Norman North. She has been named team most valuable player as a freshman and outstanding defensive player as a sophomore and junior.
"We are so happy to have Tori join our team,” OCU coach Nikki Dieball said. “She is an incredibly active defensive player and has a great feel for the game.”
Thomas competed for Oklahoma Peak Performance and Oklahoma Charge Volleyball Club as well as playing three years of basketball at Norman North.
“She is one of those players that gives her team every ounce of her effort and leaves everything on the court,” Dieball said. “She has an incredible attitude and will be an outstanding teammate."
Thomas currently holds a 4.0 grade point average, is a member of the National Honor Society and is ranked No. 1 in her class at Norman North.
OCU faces John Brown (Ark.) at 7 p.m. Tuesday at Abe Lemons Arena.
