Box Score 2 OKLAHOMA CITY – Oklahoma City University gave Nikki Dieball her first win as Stars volleyball coach in a 26-24, 25-21, 25-19 win over Tabor (Kan.) on Friday at Abe Lemons Arena in the Oklahoma City-Southern Nazarene Classic.
OCU split its two matches Friday after a 25-25-20, 25-18, 30-32, 25-23 loss to College of the Ozarks (Mo.).
In the first set, OCU overcame 9-5 and 24-22 deficits to take the set 26-24. Benbrook, a senior from Enid, Okla., knocked down a kill to clinch the set. Santos, a senior from Sao Paulo, Brazil, notched three kills as the Stars erased a 16-13 deficit. Meghan Irwin nailed an ace to put OCU up 19-17.
OCU scored the final three points of the match as Robison and Taylor Rowton nailed kills.
“It was unbelievable,” Dieball said. “We were very nervous. The girls have been amped up. We had great digs and owned the floor. I'm proud of the girls and how they produced this afternoon.”
Against College of the Ozarks, Benbrook and Santos topped OCU with 15 kills each. Santos also had 19 digs and two aces, while Benbrook racked up five blocks. Torrie Flynn added nine kills and three blocks, while Irwin contributed eight kills, seven digs and four blocks for the Stars.
Cross' kill and ace put OCU ahead 17-11 in the second set. Benbrook stuffed Kylie Dudley's attack, and Rowton pounded down a kill during the Stars' run.
College of the Ozarks answered to take a 19-17 edge. Ozarks had set point at 24-23, but Benbrook kept OCU going with a kill, then had another kill to stop another Ozarks set point at 25-24. Benbrook hit another kill to give OCU set point at 26-25.
The Stars had set point five times before Benbrook's kill put away the set 32-30. Flynn, Irwin and Santos cranked out kills to give OCU set point during this stretch.
