OCU's Lily LaVelle pitched a complete game one-hit shutout to start the cool and cloudy evening of softball. LaVelle, a junior from Bridge Creek, Okla., went all seven innings and struck out 13 batters en route to the victory.
Oklahoma Christian's sole hit came in the top of the seventh when Davee Croy picked up a single that flew over third baseman Nathalie Timmermans head and into left to break up the no hit bid. LaVelle hit her way to a 2-for-4 effort while bringing in two and scoring one run.
The Stars scored four in the sixth to commandeer the 6-0 win. LeeAnn Lopez, a sophomore from Grand Prairie, Texas, singled to left and brought in Shari Misuraca. An RBI double by Megean De La Torre allowed Lopez to come in for the score. After the second fielding error of the inning by Oklahoma Christian, De La Torre streaked home from third. LaVelle pounded an RBI single to bring in Chelsea Eddy to cap the scoring for the Stars.
