OCU vs. USAO men's basketball preview

Dee Proby scores 11.8 points and pulls down 4.3 rebounds a game.

THE MATCHUP: Oklahoma City University takes on USAO needing a win to stay in the hunt for a Sooner Athletic Conference Tournament spot.
OCU's seniors will be honored – Cesar Cuevas, Nate Flowers, Dee Proby and Bryant Williams.
Tickets are $7 for adults, $5 for students. OCU students, faculty and staff get free admission with their university ID.

ABOUT THE STARS: OCU fell 94-79 to Northwestern Oklahoma State on Monday at Abe Lemons Arena. Northwestern ended the game on a 17-7 run. The Stars dropped to 16-12, 9-11 SAC.
Brandon Moton, a 6-foot-3 junior from Beaumont, Texas, paced OCU with 24 points and four steals. He shot 7-for-12 from the field and 4-for-8 on 3-pointers. Moton scores 13.2 points a game and hits 41.6 percent from 3-point range. The last eight games, Moton has averaged 16.5 points and shot 53.6 percent from the floor.
Nate Flowers, a 6-5 senior from Waldorf, Md., put together 14 points, three rebounds and three assists off the bench. Flowers records 12.3 points and 9.6 rebounds a game. Orlan Jackman, a 6-6 junior from London, chipped in 12 points and five rebounds. Jackman averages 12.1 points and 5.1 rebounds.

The Stars were unranked in the latest NAIA Division I rankings. OCU has been picked to finish fifth in the SAC according to league coaches. Six-time national champion OCU has captured the SAC regular-season crown 11 times.
OCU holds a 30-12 advantage against USAO. USAO nipped the Stars 63-62 on Jan. 15 in Chickasha, Okla. Dee Proby led OCU with 15 points.

ABOUT THE DROVERS: Rogers State edged USAO 77-75 on Saturday in Chickasha, Okla. Phillip Harris tied the game 72-72 on a layup with 43 seconds left, but Rogers State's John Boyd answered with a bucket. USAO fell to 10-16, 6-14 in the SAC.
Harris, a 5-11 sophomore, totaled 24 points, five rebounds, five assists and two steals. Harris scores 10.4 points a game. Thomas Peters, a 6-2 senior, scored 20 points and nailed five 3-pointers. Peters scores a team-high 16.5 points a game.
USAO had been projected to finish 11th in the league according to the preseason SAC coaches poll.

ABOUT THE COACHES: Kevin Morrissey has posted a 48-40 record in his third season at OCU. Morrissey spent the previous four seasons as St. Gregory's coach. He also has been an assistant at Missouri State and Texas-Pan American. Morrissey played his college ball at Oklahoma Baptist and Oral Roberts and high school at Bishop McGuinness in Oklahoma City.
Brisco McPherson has a 277-296 record in his 20th season as USAO coach. McPherson, also the school's athletic director, led USAO to the 2002 NAIA championship.
