OCU pops Our Lady of the Lake 83-73

Jones spearheads Stars with 19 points, eight assists

Sam Ferguson chipped in nine points and four rebounds Saturday.
SAN ANTONIO – Oklahoma City University held off Our Lady of the Lake (Texas) in an 83-73 win Saturday in the Halo Classic at the Mabee Gymnasium.
Charlton Jones, a junior from Katy, Texas, paced the Stars with 19 points, six rebounds and eight assists. OCU improved to 3-1 in men's basketball.
C.J. Busby, a junior from Beaumont, Texas, added 18 points by knocking in six 3-pointers for OCU. Tim Morton, a sophomore from Capital Heights, Md., posted 17 points, five rebounds and two steals while hitting all seven of his shots from the field.
Shane Rogers, a senior from Flower Mound, Texas, came off the bench to provide OCU with 12 points, three rebounds and two steals.
The Stars connected on 59.2 percent of their shots from the floor, hitting 63.3 percent in the first half. OCU dropped in 11 of 21 3-point attempts.
OCU owned a 36-26 rebounding advantage as Our Lady of the Lake managed 35.5 percent shooting from the field. Our Lady of the Lake shot 25.9 percent in the first half.
Busby canned a trey to give OCU its largest lead of the game. The Stars led 59-38 at 13:41 left in the game.
Our Lady of the Lake climbed back into the contest with a 10-2 run. Josh Orta sank free throws to cut OCU's lead to 79-71 with 2:28 remaining in the game. Jones hit four free throws down the stretch to help OCU salt away the win.
The Stars built a 26-15 first-half advantage on the strength of a 10-0 splurge. Rogers had a bucket, 3-pointer and a layup to spur OCU during that stretch.
OCU added a 13-0 spree to create a 44-24 lead. Sam Ferguson ignited the run by drilling a 3 and capped the run with a basket with 1:57 to go in the first.
The Stars face Mid-America Christian at 8 p.m. Tuesday at the Gaulke Activity Center in Oklahoma City.
