OKLAHOMA CITY – Oklahoma City University routed Central Bible (Mo.) 90-58 on Tuesday at Abe Lemons Arena.
Shane Rogers, a junior from Flower Mound, Texas paced five OCU double-figure scorers with 16 points. The Stars remained unbeaten, moving to 5-0 in men's basketball.
Rogers added nine rebounds and three assists. Kaleb Smith, a freshman from Choctaw, Okla., added 13 points, four assists and a team-high six steals, while Nate Flowers, a junior from Waldorf, Md., chipped in 12 points and 10 rebounds for OCU.
Central Bible shot 33.9 percent from the field, but hit 40.6 percent in the second half. Central Bible hit 40.6 percent from 3-point range in the game.
“It was a very frustrating game,” OCU coach Kevin Morrissey said. “Guys forced the issue too much. We didn't share the ball. They shot 40 percent from 3-point range. That's unacceptable. Some of the guys were passive. They're playing to the competition.”
Central Bible led once at 3-2. After the game was tied 6-6, OCU outscored Central Bible 24-3 to seize the lead.
Dee Proby's 3-pointer broke the tie and triggered a 13-0 Stars run. Smith capped the OCU splurge with a 3 and a layup to give his team a 19-6 advantage.
Caleb Willis broke OCU's run with a trey. Moton answered by knocking in a 3-pointer to a start an 8-0 Stars run. Moton's free throw put the Stars up 30-9.
In the second half, Ismai'l Calhoun pocketed a steal and hit a lay-in to provide OCU its largest lead at 85-49 with 1:58 remaining.
The Stars pushed their lead to 35 with a 10-0 run. Smith sparked the run with a putback. Stephene sank free throws to give OCU a 79-44 with 3:05 showing on the clock.
OCU meets Dallas Christian at 3 p.m. Saturday at Abe Lemons Arena.
