OCU's Ma honored as SAC volleyball most valuable player

Benbrook, Murphy, Santos also named all-SAC

Xiaoting Ma earned Sooner Athletic Conference volleyball most valuable player and hitter of the year.

OKLAHOMA CITY – Xiaoting Ma of Oklahoma City University has been named Sooner Athletic Conference volleyball most valuable player as well as hitter of the year.

Ma, a senior right-side hitter from Dalian, China, compiled 3.98 kills, 3.66 digs, 0.41 blocks and 0.25 aces a set for 4.46 points per set for the Stars. OCU's Alex Benbrook joined Ma on the first team, while Vicky Murphy and Raissa Santos were honorable-mention selections.

This year, Ma garnered SAC player of the week a league-high four times. Ma also picked up NAIA player of the week for Oct. 18-24. Ma ranked second in the league in kills per set.

Ma recorded a single-match school-record 28 kills against John Brown (Ark.) on Oct. 19 at Abe Lemons Arena. She picked up a season-high 27 digs vs. Oklahoma Baptist on Sept. 30. Ma amassed 20 double-doubles in kills and digs in 30 matches.

Benbrook, a junior middle blocker from Enid, Okla., notched 2.30 kills and 0.85 blocks a set this season. Benbrook ranked third in the SAC in blocks per set.

Benbrook picked up a season-high 15 kills against Wiley (Texas) on Aug. 27 and vs. Bryan (Tenn.) on Oct. 16. Benbrook had eight blocks – four solo – against Oklahoma Baptist on Sept. 30.

Murphy, a junior right-side hitter from Spring, Texas, averaged 2.13 kills and 0.29 blocks per set. Murphy posted a season-high 15 kills vs. Oklahoma Baptist on Sept. 30.

Santos, a junior outside hitter from Sao Paulo, Brazil, put together 2.22 kills, 3.38 digs and 0.23 blocks a set. Santos amassed 20 kills vs. John Brown on Oct. 19 and 27 digs at Lindenwood (Mo.) on Oct. 15.

The Stars play in the SAC Tournament this weekend in Shawnee, Okla.
