THE MATCHUP: Oklahoma City University makes its home season debut against Baptist Bible (Mo.).
Tickets are $7 for adults, $5 students and free to OCU students, faculty and staff with their ID.
ABOUT THE STARS: OCU (1-0) narrowly lost 68-66 to Missouri on Sunday in Columbia, Mo., in exhibition play. Donica Cosby's 3-point shot rimmed out at the buzzer after Desiree Jeffries' jump shot cut the Stars' deficit to two points with six seconds left.
Cosby, a 5-8 senior from Coldwater, Miss., scored 15 points, sinking 3 of 7 3-point attempts Sunday. Cosby garnered first-team all-American and all-Sooner Athletic Conference while also picking up SAC newcomer of the year. Breezy Martin, a 5-11 senior from Oklahoma City, added 15 points, five rebounds and two steals. Martin sank 11-of-13 from the free-throw line.
Jeffries, a 6-foot sophomore from Oklahoma City, contributed 13 points, seven rebounds, three assists and three steals. Jeffries joined the Stars after playing at Oklahoma State.
The Stars were ranked third in the preseason national rankings. SAC coaches placed OCU as the heavy favorite to win the league title. OCU has won or shared the SAC regular-season crown 11 times. Five-time national champion OCU entered the season tied for the most wins in NAIA women's basketball since 2000-01.
These two schools have never met each other in women's basketball.
ABOUT THE PATRIOTS: Baptist Bible fell 89-29 to Atlanta Christian on Nov. 4 in Atlanta.
Baptist faces Southern Nazarene at 6 p.m. Friday in Bethany, Okla., before meeting the Stars.
ABOUT THE COACHES: Rob Edmisson has posted a stellar 151-26 record in his sixth season at OCU and a 453-145 record overall in his 21st season as a head coach. Edmisson, a two-time SAC coach of the year, has led the Stars to SAC regular-season championships three times and three SAC Tournament titles. Edmisson coached the only player drafted into the WNBA from OCU, Mariam Sy. He won 192 games at Hutchinson (Kan.) and 110 as a high-school coach in Kansas.
Jamee Sparks serves as the Baptist Bible coach. Baptist Bible went 6-19 last season.
