OCU falls to Wayland Baptist in three sets

Stars host Dig Pink Night on Tuesday

Vicky Murphy notched eight kills Saturday.
PLAINVIEW, Texas – Oklahoma City University took a setback 25-22, 25-18, 25-17 to Wayland Baptist (Texas) on Saturday at the Hutcherson Center.
The Stars fell to 12-7, 4-3 in Sooner Athletic Conference volleyball. Wayland Baptist improved to 12-6, 5-2 in the SAC.
Raissa Santos, a junior from Sao Paulo, Brazil, had eight kills and 11 digs for OCU. Vicky Murphy, a junior from Spring, Texas, also had eight kills for the Stars.
The Stars' Kayli Jordan picked up a team-high 12 digs. Danielle Robison handed out 19 assists, and Samantha Ball registered 14 assists and eight digs for OCU.
In the first set, OCU rallied from a 15-8 deficit. The Stars closed their gap to 21-19 after going on a 5-1 run. Xiaoting Ma sparked OCU with two aces in that time.
Murphy's kill cut OCU's deficit to 22-20, but the Stars managed only Ma's kill down the stretch as Wayland Baptist took the set.
In the second set, Alex Benbrook knocked down a kill to cut OCU's deficit to 22-18. Wayland Baptist answered with the next three points, including Jennifer Wyatt's kill to put away the set.
Wyatt had a kill to clinch the match in the third set.
The Stars face Southern Nazarene at 7 p.m. Tuesday at Abe Lemons Arena. It will be Dig Pink Night in honor of Breast Cancer Awareness Month.
