OKLAHOMA CITY – Oklahoma City University picked up a Sooner Athletic Conference volleyball victory 22-25, 25-21, 25-13, 25-17 over Southern Nazarene on Tuesday at Abe Lemons Arena.
The Stars snapped a two-match losing string to move to 13-7, 5-3 in the SAC. Torrie Flynn, a freshman from Edmond, Okla., led OCU with 14 kills to go with four blocks.
OCU's Xiaoting Ma, a senior from Dalian, China, added 12 kills and 15 digs for her 13th double-double of the year. Danielle Robison, a freshman from Dallas, notched a season-high 43 assists to go with seven digs for the Stars.
In the first set, SNU tallied the final four points of the frame. Danielle Hampton sparked her team with a kill.
In the next set, OCU built a 7-3 lead early aided by kills from Flynn and Robison. SNU rallied to take a 16-14 edge, but OCU answered with the next four points. Ma and Vicky Murphy knocked down consecutive kills for the Stars. Ma recorded kills to put OCU at set point, then to put away the set.
The Stars built 6-1 and 20-8 advantages en route to winning the third set.
In the final set, Taylor Rowton pounded down consecutive kills to give OCU a 7-1 lead. Benbrook socked away a kill to sew up the Stars victory.
OCU faces Olivet Nazarene (Ill.) at 3 p.m. Friday in the Lindenwood Classic at St. Charles, Mo. The Stars take on Lindenwood (Mo.) at 7 p.m. Friday.
