ATHERTON, Calif. – Oklahoma City University remained unbeaten on the season in women's wrestling duals, beating Simon Fraser (British Columbia) 28-13, Menlo (Calif.) 41-4 and Yakima Valley (Wash.) 45-1 on Saturday at Haynes-Prim Pavilion.
The Stars moved to 18-0-1 this season. OCU defeated Simon Fraser, which had tied the Stars earlier this season.
Simon Fraser tied OCU 16-16 on Oct. 23 in Calgary, Alberta, Canada. The Stars improved to 2-0-1 against Simon Fraser in 2009-10.
OCU's Brittany Delgado, a sophomore from Simpsonville, S.C., upended the top-ranked individual at 82 kilograms, Hillary Greening, in the 95-kilogram match. Delgado entered the season as the third-ranked individual at 82.
Na'Tasha Umemoto at 51 and Michaela Hutchison at 55 picked up pins against Simon Fraser.
Against Menlo, OCU benefited from five pins and a forfeit. Hutchison's fall in 27 seconds over Jacque Davis highlighted the Stars' pins.
Brittney Roberts defeated Rebecca Medeiros by fall in 31 seconds at 72. Delgado also pinned Brittany Caoile in 1:36 at 95.
At 63, Audrey Morehouse finished off Rachael Skrotch in 1:44, while Ashley Hudson pinned Kayla Garza 1:22 into the second period of the 59-kilo bout.
Katherine Fulp-Allen prevailed over Umemoto in the feature match of the dual. Fulp-Allen is the top-ranked defending national champion at 51, while Umemoto entered as the third-ranked individual at 51. Fulp-Allen won the final two periods after Umemoto took the first period.
Against Yakima Valley, OCU allowed only one team point for the third time ever. The Stars shut out Wisconsin-River Falls 45-0 on Dec. 6, 2008.
The Stars picked up six falls. Stephanie Waters started OCU rolling with a fall in 11 seconds at 44 kilos.
Delgado finished her bout in 20 seconds, while Hudson won in 37 seconds.
Roberts, Tessa Plana at 67 and Melissa Simmons at 82 each earned second-period falls.
OCU compete in the Menlo Lady Oaks Open Tournament on Sunday in Atherton, Calif.
