Central Oklahoma takes four-set match from OCU

EDMOND, Okla. – Central Oklahoma topped Oklahoma City University 26-24, 25-18, 17-25, 25-18 on Tuesday at Hamilton Field House.

Xiaoting Ma, a junior from Dalian, China, posted 19 kills, 14 digs, three aces and three blocks for the Stars, who dropped to 6-9 on the year.

Alex Benbrook and Lindsay Hansen each chipped in nine kills. Benbrook, a sophomore from Enid, Okla., led OCU with five blocks. Vicky Murphy notched 43 assists, 10 digs and two blocks.

The Stars compiled 10 aces, a team season high for a match. Murphy, Elizabeth Hendrix and Brittany Segars each recorded a pair of aces.

In the first set, OCU built a 5-1 lead using Ma's kill and a Benbrook rejection. Central Oklahoma rallied to put together a 13-10 edge and eventually got to set point at 24-23. Murphy answered with a kill, but Central Oklahoma got to set point again on Kristen Wilson's kill. Central Oklahoma put away the set.

On the way to the third-set win, OCU built a 19-12 lead. The Stars had four points in a row as Ma chipped in an ace and a kill.

Central Oklahoma put away the match in the fourth set. OCU cut its deficit to 10-9 on Ma's back-to-back aces, but Central Oklahoma answered with the next six points.

The Stars face Cameron at 10 a.m., then Arkansas-Fort Smith at noon Saturday in Lawton, Okla.
