OCU's second-half run dooms Rogers State 72-54

Breezy Martin had 27 points and seven rebounds Wednesday.

LUBBOCK, Texas – Breezy Martin propelled Oklahoma City University with a career-high scoring effort in a 72-54 Stars win over Rogers State on Wednesday at the Rip Griffin Center in the Sooner Athletic Conference Tournament quarterfinals.

Martin, a junior from Oklahoma City, poured in 27 points to spark the Stars, ranked 13th in NAIA women's basketball. OCU (26-5) went to the semifinals vs. Lubbock Christian (Texas) at 4 p.m. Friday.

Rogers State went on a late first-half flurry to take a 29-28 halftime lead. Rogers State (18-14) scored 11 consecutive points to end the first period. Rogers State held a 41-38 lead with 12:50 left in the game before OCU made a game-changing run.

The Stars took control with a 9-0 run ignited by Laura Duncan's 3-pointer at the 12:33 mark. Duncan sank two free throws, then Martin had a transition basket off Duncan's rebound and outlet feed. Duncan's basket put OCU ahead 47-41 with 10:31 to go.

OCU made it an 18-4 run, taking a 56-45 advantage when Atta Diabate scored with 6:06 remaining. Martin chipped in seven points during that stretch.

Martin grabbed seven rebounds and sank 10 of 12 shots from the field and 7 of 8 free throws. Martin surpassed her previous high of 25 points against St. Gregory's on Feb. 12.

Chontaye Walter, a junior from Oklahoma City, tallied 18 points, four rebounds and four assists for OCU. Duncan, a junior from Edmond, Okla., chipped in nine points, nine rebounds, five steals and four assists.

Holly Hardin pulled down a team-high 10 rebounds as OCU built a 51-37 rebounding advantage. The Stars made Rogers State pay for 21 turnovers, outscoring Rogers State in points off turnovers 21-7.
