Lubbock Christian pulls away from OCU 85-76

Chelsea Ledbetter recorded her third double-double of the season with 20 points and 10 rebounds.

LUBBOCK, Texas – Lubbock Christian (Texas) finished off the contest by scoring the final nine points of an 85-76 win over Oklahoma City University on Thursday at the Rip Griffin Center.

The Stars, ranked seventh in NAIA Division I women's basketball, moved to 19-3, 11-3 in the Sooner Athletic Conference. Tenth-ranked Lubbock Christian improved to 19-3, 12-2 and took over second place in the SAC by itself.

Laura Duncan, a junior from Edmond, Okla., led OCU with 22 points, while Chelsea Ledbetter had 20 points and tied her career high with 10 rebounds. Ledbetter, a senior from Norman, Okla., also picked up 10 rebounds vs. St. Gregory's on Jan. 2, 2006.

OCU overcame a 16-point deficit to tie the score 76-76. The Stars came up with an 8-0 run to slice Lubbock Christian's lead to 72-67 as Chontaye Walter buried a 3 with 4:06 left.

Breezy Martin and Walter sank baskets, then Duncan dropped in back-to-back 3-pointers as OCU reeled off a 7-0 run to tie the game 76-76 with 1:10 left.

Lubbock Christian hit 9 of 10 free throws in the final 1:10 to pull away. Jordan Hampton sank a pair of free throws with 51 seconds remaining, then hit another with 25 seconds left.

Holly Hardin added 13 points and six rebounds, while Walter chipped in nine points, seven rebounds and seven assists for the Stars. OCU shot only 35.8 percent from the field in the game.

OCU meets Wayland Baptist (Texas) at 1 p.m. Saturday in Plainview, Texas.
