Hardin leads Stars past Mid-America 69-54

Chelsea Ledbetter recorded 14 points, seven assists and four steals Monday.

OKLAHOMA CITY – Oklahoma City University's women's basketball team knocked off Mid-America Christian 69-54 on Monday night at Abe Lemons Arena.

The Stars, ranked 16th in NAIA Division I, improved to 21-5, 13-5 in the Sooner Athletic Conference. Holly Hardin, a junior from Chickasha, Okla., returned to the starting lineup and led the Stars offensively with 21 points as well as grabbing eight rebounds.

Chelsea Ledbetter, a senior from Norman, Okla., followed with 14 points, seven assists and four steals. Ledbetter's layup at 9:34 in the first half sparked a 15-3 run by the Stars, giving them a 28-16 advantage with 4:18 to play in the first half.

The Stars largest lead was 17 points in the second half with 9:49 remaining. Laura Duncan sank two free throws to put OCU up 53-36.

OCU defense forced 27 turnovers for Mid-America Christian, and converted 32 points off turnovers in the matchup. The Stars also posted 40 rebounds.

“There were times we defended well,” said OCU coach Rob Edmisson. “We didn't adjust to the way the game was called, but it is good to get Holly back and Chelsea played better than she has been.”

Duncan, Breezy Martin and Chontaye Walter all chipped in eight points for the Stars. Atta Diabate, a senior from Mali, West Africa, contributed six points to the effort, as well as a team-high nine rebounds.

OCU will face John Brown (Ark.) at 6 p.m. Thursday at Abe Lemons Arena.
