Stars run away from St. Gregory's 80-56

DaVell Jackson had 10 points, six rebounds and eight assists Thursday.

OKLAHOMA CITY – Oklahoma City University's men's basketball team topped St. Gregory's 80-56 on Thursday at Abe Lemons Arena.

The Stars improved to 14-10, 7-9 in the Sooner Athletic Conference. Five Stars posted double-digit scoring figures in the matchup.

Jamel White led the Stars, posting 29 points to go with four rebounds and three assists. White, a junior from Brooklyn, N.Y., sank 6 of 7 from behind the arc.

Marlon Jones, a senior from Greenville, N.C., posted a double-double for the Stars, chipping in 10 points and grabbing 10 rebounds. Richard Jackson, a senior from Bronx, N.Y., added 12 points and seven assists.

DaVell Jackson, a junior from Las Vegas, posted 10 points, six rebounds and handed out a team-high eight assists, while Vinicius Telo, a sophomore from Ribeirao Preto, Brazil, scored 10 to round out the Stars' double-digit scorers.

“It was a good win for us,” said OCU coach Kevin Morrissey. “We shot the ball really well tonight. The guys were looking for Jamel tonight because he had a hot hand. He was shooting the ball extremely well.”

The Stars trailed most of the first half until going on a 9-1 run, sparked by a 3-point conversion by DaVell Jackson with 2:42 remaining in the half. The Stars went into halftime leading 34-26 and kept the lead the rest of the game. The Stars overcame a seven-point deficit.

A dunk by Telo with an assist from White pushed the Stars on a 21-1 run with 13:49 to play in the game, giving them a 21-point margin. OCU's largest lead was 24 with 4:30 left in the second half. Richard Jackson hit a lay-in to put the Stars ahead 72-48.

OCU posted 42 rebounds to St. Gregory's 28. The Stars had 17 offensive boards and scored 19 points off second-chance plays.

The Stars face Oklahoma Baptist at 8 p.m. Saturday at the Noble Complex in Shawnee, Okla.
