OKLAHOMA CITY – Oklahoma City University notched a 96-58 road victory over Mid-America Christian Saturday evening at the Gaulke Activity Center.
The Stars, ranked eighth in NAIA Division I women's basketball, made 11 of their 12 3-point shots and forced 32 MACU turnovers to improve to 6-2, 2-1 in the Sooner Athletic Conference.
Brett Bates, a sophomore from Hobart, Okla., and Laura Duncan, a senior from Edmond, Okla., each had 17 points to the lead the Stars. The two combined to go 5-of-5 from 3-point range.
Donica Cosby, a junior from Coldwater, Miss., and Holly Hardin, a senior from Chickasha, Okla., provided 13 points each, while Chontaye Walter, a senior from Oklahoma City, and K.J. Johnson, a junior from Portland, Ore., had 10 points apiece.
The Stars used a 16-0 run early in the first half to build a 20-point advantage. Duncan hit a layup off a Mid-America turnover to start the run and give OCU an 8-2 lead. With the Stars up 19-2, Cosby hit a 3-pointer in transition to make the score 22-2 with 9:22 to play in the first half.
In the second half, OCU opened on a 15-4 run to take a 59-27 lead. Cosby hit two 3-pointers during that span to ignite the run.
Bates hit a 3-pointer with 3:54 left to give OCU its biggest lead at 89-51. OCU shot 61 percent from the field for the game and limited Mid-America Christian to just 38 percent shooting.
The Stars will travel to Fullerton, Calif., for the Azusa Pacific Tournament on Dec. 18-19.
