OCU falls 55-47 to No. 10 Texas Wesleyan

Chris Brown scored a team-high 15 points on 7-of-13 shooting Tuesday.

FORT WORTH, Texas – Oklahoma City University suffered a 55-47 loss to Texas Wesleyan on Tuesday at the Sid Richardson Center.

The Stars went to 2-1, while Texas Wesleyan, ranked 10th in NAIA Division I men's basketball, improved to 4-3. Chris Brown, a senior from Spencer, Okla., paced OCU with 15 points.

Corey Bingham, a junior from Lynn, Mass., added 12 points, six assists and three steals while sinking three 3-pointers for the Stars. Bryant Williams had eight points, four blocks and two steals.

Texas Wesleyan picked up its 24th consecutive home-court win to break the program record.

OCU took advantage of 20 Texas Wesleyan turnovers to score 17 points. The Stars managed only 38.5 percent shooting from the field, 33.3 percent in the second half. Texas Wesleyan held a 38-27 advantage in rebounds.

The Stars built an 18-11 lead early after Bingham dropped in a trey and Cory Nicholson drained a jumper, the latter coming with 11:17 left in the first half. Al Graham's layup made the Stars' advantage 20-13 with 9:36 left in the first.

Texas Wesleyan answered with an 11-2 run. Jeremy Smith's 3 tied the game 22-22, and Jeremy Mayfield added a transition bucket to put Texas Wesleyan ahead 24-22 at the 3:16 mark.

Williams knocked in a free throw that put OCU up 31-30 with 17:34. Texas Wesleyan seized the lead for good by reeling off an 11-2 run. Brian Wanaker hit a jump shot to put Texas Wesleyan up 32-31, and Ryan Glanzer's 3-point play had Texas Wesleyan leading 41-33 with 12:03 left.

Wanaker's basket gave Texas Wesleyan its largest lead of the game at 45-35 with 9:07 on the clock. Brown's jumper in the lane cut the Stars' deficit to 47-43 with 2:12 to go, but that was the closest OCU could get to Texas Wesleyan.

OCU opens Sooner Athletic Conference play by facing Oklahoma Baptist at 8 p.m. Dec. 3 in Shawnee, Okla.
