Hardin leads Stars past Southwestern 79-70

Holly Hardin topped all scorers with a career-high 27 points Friday.

WEATHERFORD, Okla. – Holly Hardin tallied a career-high 27 points in Oklahoma City University's 79-70 victory over Southwestern Oklahoma State on Friday at Rankin Williams Fieldhouse in the Southwestern Classic.

Hardin, a senior from Chickasha, Okla., also grabbed nine rebounds and sank 11 of 14 shots from the floor as the Stars, ranked eighth in NAIA Division I women's basketball, moved to 4-0.
Hardin surpassed the 24 points she scored against Bethel (Tenn.) on March 18, 2009 in the NAIA Tournament in Jackson, Tenn.

Donica Cosby chipped in nine points, three assists and two steals, while Chontaye Walter registered nine points and two steals for OCU.
Lauren Gober and Starr Fairbanks each contributed eight points. Lameka Oakes had seven points and two steals, while Laura Duncan added seven points, seven rebounds, six assists and two steals for the Stars.

OCU came up with a 10-0 run towards the end of the contest to build its largest lead of the game. Walter dropped in a layup to ignite the Stars' spree. After Hardin had a bucket, Walter sank a jumper. Duncan had a pair of free throws, and Lauren Gober's basket put OCU up 77-62 with 1:25 left.

Chelsey Dillon's layup cut OCU's lead to 42-38 with 16:43 to go in the game. Gober had a bucket to build OCU's lead to 14 points with 10:15 remaining, and Hardin converted a 3-point play to give the Stars a 64-50 advantage at the 9:20 mark.

OCU cashed in 23 Southwestern turnovers to score 33 points. The Stars shot 50.8 percent from the field in the contest.
