OKLAHOMA CITY – Oklahoma City University's men's basketball team was defeated by fifth-ranked Oklahoma Baptist on Thursday at Abe Lemons Arena.
The Stars' offense was led by Richard Jackson, a senior from Bronx, N.Y., posting 18 points and five assists. Ricardo Lovelace, a junior from Philadelphia, added 17 points to the effort as well as grabbing five boards.
OCU dropped to 11-7, 4-6 in the Sooner Athletic Conference, while Oklahoma Baptist went to 16-2, 9-1. The Stars shot 55.6 percent from the field, 38.5 percent from behind the arc.
The game was tied 56-56 with 7:45 remaining in the second half, but with two quick steals and baskets by Oklahoma Baptist, the Stars were down by four with 7:31 remaining. Brent Jones had the first of the two steals at 7:40, while Nate Brumfield grabbed the second at 7:31, giving the Bison a four-point lead.
“We've got to take care of the ball,” said OCU coach #Kevin Morrissey#. “Our margin is slim. When we give up 52 points in the second half, we can't win.”
DaVell Jackson also had 15 points and a team-high six assists. Jamel White rounded out the double-digit scorers for the Stars with 12 points and four rebounds.
The Stars will face St. Gregory's at 8 p.m. Saturday in Shawnee, Okla.
