OCU women knock off fourth-ranked Lubbock Christian 76-62

OKLAHOMA CITY ? Oklahoma City University upended Lubbock Christian (Texas) 76-62 on Saturday at Abe Lemons Arena.
The Stars led from start to finish in knocking off the fourth-ranked team in NAIA Division I women?s basketball.
No. 21 OCU went to 18-4, 7-4. Lubbock Christian fell to 18-4, 9-2.
Romana Vynuchalova, a 6-foot-4 junior from Bratislava, Slovakia, recorded a team-high 18 points. Viola Beybeyah, a 5-10 junior from Oklahoma City, grabbed a game-high 14 rebounds as the Stars owned a 44-29 advantage off the boards.
?We had some extra motivation this week,? OCU coach Rob Edmisson said. ?There was a tidbit in the paper the other day that we had lost our swagger. We posted that in our locker room.?
The Stars opened up 15-1 and 19-3 early leads, the latter of which was the largest margin of the game. Alexandra Kotta, a 5-11 senior from Germantown, Md., had eight points during that span, hitting two 3-pointers for OCU.
?We set a tone in the first five minutes that if you were going to beat us, you were going to have to do something special,? Edmisson said. ?This is the team we expected to see most nights. That just has not happened. I?m very proud of our kids.?
Kotta added 17 points, 12 rebounds and three steals. Beybeyah chipped in 16 points.
The Stars meet St. Gregory?s at 6 p.m. Monday in Shawnee, Okla.
