THE MATCHUP: Oklahoma City University finishes a four-game road swing with a tilt against Oklahoma Baptist, the latest edition of what has been a hotly-contested series. Three of the last four meetings have come down to three points or less.
ABOUT THE STARS: OCU prevailed over USAO 76-60 on Saturday in Chickasha, Okla. The Stars are now 20-5, 9-5 in the Sooner Athletic Conference.
Viola Beybeyah, a 5-foot-10 junior from Oklahoma City, showed her versatility by scoring 20 points, grabbing eight rebounds and four steals and dishing six assists.
Chelsea Ledbetter, a 5-8 sophomore from Norman, Okla., recorded 17 points, four rebounds and four steals.
Alexandra Kotta, a 5-11 senior from Germantown, Md., leads the Stars with 14 points, 6.1 rebounds and 2.83 steals per game. Kotta ranks 14th in the NAIA in steals.
The Stars are ranked 19th in NAIA Division I. OCU is the defending conference champion. OCU is sixth in the nation in turnover margin at plus-7.08 turnovers per game.
OCU has a 32-16 advantage in the overall series against Oklahoma Baptist. Kotta and Ledbetter each had 18 points to lead the Stars to a 69-66 win over OBU on Jan. 27 at Abe Lemons Arena.
ABOUT THE LADY BISON: Oklahoma Baptist fell to seventh-ranked Lubbock Christian (Texas) 81-68 on Saturday in Lubbock, Texas. Oklahoma Baptist dropped to 13-10, 7-6.
Dilenny Castillo, a 5-10 senior, had 16 points to pace Oklahoma Baptist.
Lena Brenning, a 6-2 senior, had 12 rebounds. Brenning ranks 13th in the NAIA at 1.74 blocks per game.
Jennifer Jupin, a 5-9 sophomore, leads Oklahoma Baptist with 12.7 points and 1.61 steals per contest. OBU leads the nation in defensive rebounds per game (29.4).
ABOUT THE COACHES: Rob Edmisson has a 354-127 record in 16 seasons as a head coach. Edmisson took the Stars to the NAIA quarterfinals and a 32-3 record his first season at OCU. Edmisson coached the only player drafted into the WNBA at OCU,
Mariam Sy. He won 192 games at Hutchinson (Kan.) and 110 as a high-school coach in Kansas.
John McCullough has a 132-74 record in seven seasons at Oklahoma Baptist and a 167-143 record overall, including three seasons coaching men at New Mexico Highlands. McCullough, an all-American at Oklahoma in 1979, went on to spend two seasons in the NBA before switching to coaching in 1985.
